HOW TO START A SCOBY HOTEL

Category

So you’ve made several batches of Kombucha and now your SCOBY’s are starting to multiply and take over! What are you supposed to do? Well, sharing is caring. But eventually you run out of people to give them to. It’s time to start a SCOBY Hotel.

Ingredients:
Glass beverage container big enough to hold your SCOBY’s (I use a 2 gallon container!)
Linen or clean dish towel with rubber band
Instructions:
1

Place your SCOBY’S in the glass container with enough Kombucha from your last batch to cover the SCOBY.

2

Then add about 1 cup of sweetened black tea and 1 cup of filtered water.

3

Cover with a clean linen and secure with a rubber band.

4

Place in a dark corner of your kitchen or pantry. It can stay for a very long time.
But keep in mind, SCOBY’s will continue to form and the liquid in the hotel will also start to evaporate.

5

Check on it every couple of weeks. You may need to push down the newly formed SCOBY’s into the liquid and also add more water & tea and Kombucha to keep the SCOBY’s submerged in the fluid.
