Dr. Carolyn Griffin, founder my cultured life

Meet Dr. Carolyn Griffin

Hi, I’m Dr. Carolyn Griffin (call me Dr. G). People ask me all the time, “What’s My Cultured Life?” The short answer is this is where I get to combine my love for Chiropractic, whole foods nutrition, and certification as a Fermentationist.

Getting Started with Chiropractic

I graduated from the Los Angeles College of Chiropractic and spent the past 20+ years serving patients through Chiropractic care. I love helping my patients see the macro-perspective on their health, not just the one area they want to improve. For me, Chiropractic is not just a job, it’s a lifestyle. Early on I was introduced to one aspect of healthy eating: raw foods.

Through this part of my journey the word “kefir” came up. Unbeknownst to me at the time, this turned out to be a seed that was planted and eventually grew into something bigger. More on that later.

My journey started when I was seventeen. My dad experienced the healing power of Chiropractic care and encouraged me, a direction-less, soon-to-be high school graduate, to think about becoming a Chiropractor. I visited a nearby clinic and saw how an adjustment could relieve headaches and neck pain and even alleviate chronic conditions. This was my calling!

Saying “Hello!” to Raw Food

I lived a healthy lifestyle, but learning about what raw foods are designed and capable of doing for our bodies is unbelievable! Incorporating raw foods into our diet can make our body more alkaline which can help fight and even reverse certain health conditions. Even though I didn’t become Vegan, this was just the beginning.

Falling in love with fermentation

Unfortunately, part of me being in the competitions meant I started sacrificing my health. So, I stopped competing and worked on healing my body…naturally. It was during this process when I was reintroduced to kefir!

I realized this was one of the easiest, most effective ways to transform my gut health. I went from making kefir for myself and my family to teaching others about its amazing healing properties. Without even realizing it, I came full circle! But this time, kefir lead me into the wonderful world of fermentation.

Why "My cultured life"?

My Cultured Life is an evolution of my life’s work, my journey! I went from healthy eating and not working out, being skinny-fat, to working out but eating a competition diet that is not healthy. Even though I looked fit on the outside, I was not healthy on the inside. I realized that if I wanted true health, what I was doing was not going to get me there. It was unrealistic. I knew that working out 12 hours a week to maintain my physique was physically and emotionally unsustainable.

I needed to find balance, harmony, and peace for my mind, body, and soul. I needed a new approach. I decided to take my early learnings and merge them with my recent experiences as a bikini competitor. I created My Cultured Life!

My journey expanded into completing my certification as a Fermentationist. My Cultured Life is a learning source to teach people how to make fermented foods and beverages on their own, as well as, how to use these ferments to help conditions like IBS, Crohn’s, Ulcerative Colitis, Lactose Intolerance, and many other gut-related health issues.

My Cultured Life is where I share what’s brewing in my kitchen and easy ways for you to do the same. Fermented foods and beverages are the best way to get your daily dose of a variety of healthy probiotics. With so many people suffering from gut issues, fermentation may be the best ingredient you add to your daily diet to start healing. I am looking forward to guiding you through the do’s and don’ts of fermenting.
